Who we are

University Hospitality Seminars, UhS, is a limited company belonging to academic institutions in the United Kingdom.  It provides courses that are bespoke and specific to the needs of the university hospitality sector and which are provided at best value on a not for profit basis.  It responds to demands for training and professional development courses arising from the university hospitality sector.  It is different, therefore, from commercial training companies which operate for profit and which are not dedicated to the needs of the university hospitality industry.

What we do

We provide training and professional development seminars for middle and senior managers responsible for student accommodation, catering and conferencing in the higher education sector.  Seminars are arranged in universities throughout the country.  The nature of the seminar determines its structure but the advantages of allowing time for attendees to network together are recognised.  All our seminars are monitored through client feedback and developed accordingly.

Who runs the company

The current chairman of University Hospitality Seminars Ltd is Elizabeth Crawford from University College, Oxford.  The current company secretary and finance director is John Horobin who was previously at the University of St Andrews. They will retire in early February 2012 and be replaced, subject to the formal approval of the UhS shareholders, by Pat McGrath (Chairman) and David Mckown (Company Secretary) from the University of Sheffield. The following professional groups are represented on the UhS Advisory Board:

Association for Student Residential Accommodation (ASRA), Karen Burke, Accommodation Services Manager, Sheffield Hallam University

College and University Business Officers (CUBO), Geoff Pringle, Director of Campus Services, University of Exeter

The University Caterers' Organisation (TUCO), Helen Anzani, Catering Services Manager, University of Glamorgan

Venuemasters, Emma Boynton, Head of Sales and Marketing, imago Sales Office, Loughborough University

How the seminars are organised

UhS offers a programme of seminars each year.  It recruits specialist trainers to present them, taking advice as necessary.

UhS promotes its seminars through its web site, www.universityhospitality.co.uk, and by email.  It administers the registration of attendees and supervises each seminar when it takes place.
